Community Cafe Manager
About the job
We are a community-owned non-profit shop and cafe, run mainly by volunteers. Our mission is to bring the community together, promote sustainable living and encourage healthy eating for all. We are looking for a Cafe Manager to join our team and help us achieve that mission. Our cafe offers freshly made drinks, meals and baking, as well as catering for occasional events, and providing cookery classes to community groups. We have a wonderful team of volunteers from a huge variety of backgrounds, with a wide range of skills and abilities. We also have a small number of paid cafe supervisors, who work together with our volunteers to keep our kitchen producing good quality, nutritious food.
You will need to be organised and enthusiastic, working with our management committee and your colleagues to maintain and develop our cafe’s menu, with a focus on food quality and customer satisfaction. You will need excellent communication skills to help keep our staff and volunteers working together as a team. You will need to be able to work flexibly with other staff to cover absences and annual leave. You will work with our management committee to ensure the cafe runs with appropriate income and outgoings. There will be opportunities to work with other community organisations, offering assistance and catering.
Main Daily Duties

Manage Food Hygiene and Health and Safety risks, including keeping all documentation updated and ensuring all staff and volunteers are trained and adhering to guidelines set.

Manage cafe stock, including stocktaking and ordering

Manage menu, recipes, labels and costings for all cafe foods, in conjunction with the cafe team and Admin Managaer

Manage cafe staff and volunteers in a positive and supportive manner, including volunteer and staff training and development

Preparing food (including soup, scones and cakes) for sale in the shop and cafe.

Preparing meals and drinks for customers on demand.

Cleaning kitchen and cafe area.
Person Specification
Essential

Level 3 Food hygiene certificate

Experience working in a kitchen

Terms and Conditions
Hours of work: 32 hours per week, including some weekend work.
Additional Hours: You may be asked to work extra hours, which would be repaid as time in lieu, to be taken within one month

Salary: Hourly rate of pay is £13.10.

We are looking for a Cafe Supervisor to join our cafe team. You would be working with our Cafe Manager and our other Cafe Supervisors to provide high-quality, healthy food to our customers, while ensuring that our food hygiene and health and safety standards are all adhered to.
You will need to be organised and enthusiastic, and happy to support volunteers from all backgrounds and abilities. You will need to be committed to our ethos of supplying great quality, sustainable and ethical food to our community. You will need to be able to work flexibly with other staff to cover absences and annual leave.
Main Daily Duties

Preparing food (including soup, scones and cakes) for sale in the shop and cafe.

Preparing meals and drinks for customers on demand.

Cleaning kitchen and cafe area.

Ensuring all Food Hygiene and Health and Safety standards are met, as set out in training materials.

Cleaning the kitchen at the end of the day, according to protocol provided

Supervising kitchen volunteers in carrying out these duties, some of whom will have additional needs.

Terms and Conditions
Hours of work: 20 to 22 hours per week, including some weekend work.
Additional Hours: You may be asked to work extra hours, which would be paid at your standard hourly rate.

Salary: Hourly rate of pay is £12.00.
