Volunteers’ Week takes place from 1-7 June each year. It’s an annual celebration of the fantastic contribution millions of volunteers make across the UK through volunteering in their communities.
So, why do people want to volunteer?
There are many reasons. For some, it’s a fulfilling way to give back to their community and become part of that community. It can also be a great opportunity to meet new people, socialise and make new friends. Volunteering gives you the perfect opportunity to learn new skills and can be a helpful
stepping stone to starting your first job or transitioning between jobs, as well as giving you something to put on your CV.
Since lockdown, some volunteers have said that volunteering has provided them with the opportunity to get out of the house again, create a routine in their lives and give them a sense of purpose. And there is of course the altruistic side of volunteering; many people say that helping others makes you feel great in return!
